Community Habitat Symposium 2024

Hi all,

The Kankakee Torrent Chapter of the Illinois Native Plant Society is pleased to announce that registration for the Community Habitat Symposium (Saturday, February 24, from 8:30 – 4:30) is now open on the Kankakee Torrent Chapter page of the Illinois Native Plant Society website (https://www.illinoisplants.org/kankakee-torrent-chapter/). For the bargain price of $40, you get to attend seven presentations (chosen from 11 total), coffee and snacks in the morning, and lunch at noon. We are pleased that the Indiana Academy of Science will also have a table with books for sale, including Sally Weeks’ excellent tree and shrub identification books. Once again, we will be at Joliet Junior College’s main campus with its lovely facilities. I attached our brochure (also available with a click on our website) with descriptions of all the talks, presenters, and lunch choices.

This year, we focus on learning practical skills, from organizing to save nature to collecting seeds, sowing seeds, planting plugs, and landscaping with native plants. Of course, we also provide the latest on controlling invasive species, protecting endangered plants, conservation news, and more.

Registration is limited, so please register early. Registration after February 19 means we can’t guarantee you a lunch, even if we have a vacancy.
