    Hike at Hosah Prairie
100 Shiloh Blvd, Zion, IL 60099, USA

RSVP: https://forms.gle/Aqqx7EppRqStxEaN6Attendance limited to 15 people with preference given to current INPS members. Once the event is full, you will be added to the waiting list.

Relative to its tiny size (only ~23 acres), Hosah Prairie is one of the most biodiverse areas along the Chicago lake plain. Home to many threatened and endangered taxa among its 297 (to date) documented species of plants, and with an eBird list of almost 200 species, every week along the dunes brings something new to see and enjoy. Join steward Kathleen Garness for an up-close look at one of Illinois’ precious remnant natural areas.

Please join us at 10 am for about a one hour walk. There is a picnic shelter and three tables, plus a beachfront, so you are welcome to bring a lunch for afterwards, or enjoy dining at one of the nearby restaurants. (It’s All Good, Tres Hermanos, and Culvers are some local favorites.)

The are no restroom facilities on site - the closest public one is at the CVS or at the Walgreens, on opposite corners of Wadsworth and Sheridan Road about 1.5 miles south of Shiloh Blvd.

Take Shiloh Blvd. in Zion IL, east from Sheridan to the end. Parking is on east end of Shiloh Blvd, in the lot on the north side of the guard rails. You may also park along the guard rails if the lot is full. Navigate to 100 Shiloh Blvd, Zion, IL 60099.
Masks are currently optional. Everyone is expected to treat others with respect, including wearing a mask or maintaining extra distance upon request. Anyone with symptoms or who has been in contact with a covid-positive person should stay home.

    Hike at Watersmeet
100 Avon Ave, Northfield, IL 60093, USA

RSVP: https://forms.gle/w3m6K2E7o2tsJV9u5. Attendance limited to 15 people with preference given to current INPS members. Once the event is full, you will be added to the waiting list.

Take a hike at Watersmeet Woods, a site that has been under restoration for 30 years! Most of the site was choked by buckthorn in the 90's, but still had many rare remnant plants holding on in small pockets, including the first ever known population of the state endangered Carex formosa known in Illinois. Watersmeet now hosts a range of prairie, savanna, woodland, and wetland habitats. It also includes a seepage community that grades into a large area of northern flatwoods with a diverse array of sedges.

Park on the west side of Avon Avenue, near 100 Avon Ave, Northfield, IL. We'll meet there and head across the street to the prairie. Conditions may be muddy, so please dress accordingly.

Masks are currently optional. Everyone is expected to treat others with respect, including wearing a mask or maintaining extra distance upon request. Anyone with symptoms or who has been in contact with a covid-positive person should stay home.
